Fast airport rail link due for 2030
With record passenger numbers of 17 million expected in 2020, despite a higher frequency of bus services, Budapest Airport still needs a swift, direct transport link to town. Plans are now in place for an express rail link of 22 kilometres, connecting Kőbánya-Kispest, the southern terminus of the M3 metro line, with Budapest Airport Terminal 2, and the town of Monor, about the same distance again south-east of the Hungarian capital.

With building permits already secured, the next step is to request EU funding, a process which is already under way.

For the next decade, it seems, public transport from Budapest Airport will be limited to the 100E bus direct to the city centre and the 200E stopping service to the southern end of the M3 metro route. Currently, this runs further into town at Nagyvárad tér due to construction work on the line – any suggestion of extending the network all the way to the airport is now null and void.
