Cool cocktails and fine flavours – Minute Lounge & Bar opens on Andrássy út

Andrássy út does not call to mind many options for sophisticated evening imbibing and conversation, but the Minute Lounge & Bar is out to change this. The interior decoration features splashes of gold, green and turquoise, a nod to popular overtures from the 1920s, but the beverage menu is specifically tailored to modern tastes. This blend of old and new gives the lounge a lovely retro feel.

 

Cocktail culture has boomed in recent years, and the Minute Lounge & Bar has crafted eight signature drinks to entice patrons, including Pho’Eva, an umami bomb featuring tequila, pho, lime, sherry and chili, and the Silent Night Cap, an amaro-based combo with hints of orange bitter, scotch and cherry vinegar. The Minute Lounge & Bar strives to make their cocktails go far beyond just mixing alcohols: a kind of gastronomic experience.

Another option is the Bedtime Story, which combines childhood memories of cocoa and cinnamon with adult preferences of herbal liquor, cappuccino and mousse. In an effort to be sustainably friendly, the remainder of cappuccino milk froth is used for this cocoa drink.

 

Of course, any cocktail can be generated by request, and the members of staff can whip up suggestions for the undecided.

All the signature cocktails are offered for a uniform price of 2,990 forints. With the finest ingredients going into each drink, you shouldn’t have to worry about the next day’s headache.

 

Although the hotel also has its own restaurant, the Minute Lounge & Bar has a range of snack foods and dishes which make for excellent pairings to the drinks. In the past, bar snacks were limited to nuts and greasy friend finger-food, but now items such as tarte flambée are available, with Alsatian (1,850 HUF), Caprese (2,150 HUF), hummus-and-duck-liver (1,850 HUF) and mushroom-and-tomato (1,850 HUF) varieties.

 

Cobb and beetroot salads (2,950 HUF and 2,350 HUF) may appeal to those looking for more relaxed fare. For the truly hungry, take on the hamburger trio (3,990 HUF): beef, pulled pork and grilled mushrooms. Served alongside are French fries and green salad.
