Another package-free shop opens in Budapest

Rejecting plastic bags and packaging, zero-waste pioneer Melinda Sipos set up her first, groundbreaking Ligeti in Újlipótváros, Pest District XIII, in 2018. A year later, a sister business was unveiled over in Buda, by the busy transport hub of Móricz Zsigmond körtér.

Products are select and eco-friendly, six types of rice, 24 varieties of pasta, at least half-a-dozen flours, natural cosmetics and brushes for almost every purpose.

Now Sipos has opened a third Ligeti store, proving that demand for package-free shopping is on the rise. This one works in just the same way: customers weigh the goods they want, pour them into containers or carriers they bring themselves, then pay for them in the usual way, cash or card. Staff can also provide something you can fill and take home with you in case you arrive empty-handed.
